Do you donate to local charities? Do you volunteer? Do you spring clean and give your old clothes to one of those boxes in the supermarket parking lot?
I have been thinking a lot about how people give back. And I wonder how many people want to donate money or time to a good cause but they just don’t know what is out there. And let’s face it not everyone wants to give blood or has time to help build a house. Others are unaware that we even have these options in Onslow County.
In the past few years we have had several of our agents at Exit Independence Realty giving back to the community in one form or another.
Every year we become a drop off location for Toys for Tots.
We have partnered with B.O.L.D (Bettering Our Local Downtown).
We have volunteered with Onslow Community Outreach for Christmas Cheer, and the soup kitchen. As well as the local Habitat for Humanity, the WCTI channel 12 Food Drive, Relay for Life, Onslow County Special Olympics, Autism Speaks, The Onslow Women’s Shelter, and The Wounded Warrior Project.
And then there are the many “unofficial” causes that our agents have jumped in and helped out with like the 2011 tornado clean up, manning the concession stand for Southwest baseball games, being a classroom aide, being active in local church fundraisers and blood drives.
If these don’t pique your interest than maybe you can become a volunteer firefighter for your district, Adopt a Highway or volunteer at Onslow Memorial Hospital, Onslow County Animal Shelter, Habitat Restore, or many others that are just waiting for you to donate to.
And if you don’t want to make a commitment to an organization, what about just doing something nice for your neighbor? Or the next time you are in the fast food line, pay for lunch for the guy standing behind you. No matter how you give, it will make someone’s day and make you stand a little taller too.
